CultureHub LA presents Symbiosis: Sculpting the Art of Living Together
In Symbiosis, seven Los Angeles-based artists explore the relationship between distant mediums: art and biological sciences. These artists take inspiration from sources such as the ocean, animal exoskeletons, and the human body to challenge the way these disciplines intersect and unite through technology.
Entry is free, with RSVP suggested but not required. Donations are welcome.
The exhibition will be open from 11am-5pm PT, with a featured performance and workshop scheduled below.

FEATURED WORK:
Sasha Fishman's Flatlands, Gush, Shrimp, Ice and All at Once investigates marine biomaterial extraction, toxicology, and genetic engineering as points for critical analysis and mechanisms for sculpting.
Erin Cooney's The Waves offers a defamiliarized visual and sonic experience of ocean waves by mirroring and transforming the waves into a sort of creature endowed with agency.
Isabel Beavers' Nocturne: Sea Altar honors the ocean through a multimedia installation incorporating audio, audio-reactive visuals, and light sculptures.
Ibuki Kuramochi metamorphosed her body digitally into various forms beyond time and space in her compositions Orgasmic Flesh, Filamin, and Cavum oris.
Ivana Dama explores the idea of playing a musical instrument with your eyes using custom pupil-tracking software in Command and Control.
Emma Akmakdijian's Weaving Threads video performance and installation of woven found fibers, bull kelp, and animal fibers consider the complex land and sea ecosystems of these co-creators.
Iman Person's New Air considers interspecies communication through the medium of air and video, and activates new channels for heightened human sensitivity to the environment.
Accessibility: NAVEL is located on the second floor of their building and requires climbing one flight of stairs from our alleyway entrance. Inside there are two bathrooms which are accessible for wheelchairs up to 27” wide located on each side of the bar/kitchen. To access the elevator at our Hope Street entrance, please call 213-340-4213 upon arrival. During events, a NAVEL staff member or volunteer is present to escort guests to the elevator.
Parking is available nearby at Joe’s Parking (at the corner of Venice Blvd. and Grand Ave, entrances on Grand Ave, Olive St., and 17th St) or at 520 Pico Blvd (on the corner of Pico Blvd and Hope Street).
